Sunday's Ramblings

Wow - where did this weekend go?

Jimmy flew in late on Friday night and a quick drop of the luggage followed by an even quicker shower saw him departing the house to meet the gang.  That is exactly what happens when the kids grow up and move out.  They come home for short visits and spend most of their time with their friends.

Saturday was a beautiful day and I had the joy of having dinner with Jimmy at Eddie V's in Ft. Worth.  A wonderful place to eat - if you haven't been there...do yourself a favor and GO!!!  And please - save room for dessert - The Godiva Chocolate Lava cake is incredible!  No calories - I ask the wait staff to remove all calories!

I really should be packing because tomorrow morning I depart for a week in Vancouver.  Business related but I am hopeful to get some sightseeing in too!

Until we meet again,

Finally Friday

Well hello there Friday.  Where have you been?  Do you know how much you have been missed?

I love all Friday's but this one is especially special!!!

Jimmy (my oldest son) is headed home for the weekend.  I am so very excited to see him again - I have not seen him since Thanksgiving and that is entirely too long!

I am also planning on asking for his assistance in figuring out my new Nikon camera.  He is so good with things like that.  Once I spend some time with him I will be able to finally post pics here...~whoo hoo~

Jimmy - hurry home - I miss YOU!!!

Simply Saturday and LOVING It!

I have a confession to make.  I just bought three Christmas presents online today.  Bet you are thinking that I am crazy as you look at your calendar and think "Christmas 2010 is barely over"
Well folks -  I am notorious for waiting until November to start buying Christmas presents but decided to be better organized this year.  And want to know the bonus of this?  I found exactly what I was looking for on sale.  That is even better!  I was able to save 75% by buying this time of the year instead of the ole so "raise the prices" Holiday season.  ~patting myself on the back~  I am so proud of myself!  Next goal?  I want to wrap them as soon as they come in and place them in the "present" closet where they will remain until December, 2011.  I also need to start a Christmas 2011 journal so I can jot down what I have purchased for whom and the cost.  This way I can track what I have purchased and know what I have remaining to purchase.  It is also a greast way to track those "gift" ideas that pop up all during the year.  I am trying ...trying so hard to become better organized this year!

In the frugal column - I just paid off one of my three (3) credit cards  *whoo hoo*  One down and two to go.  Next month's goal? To pay off the 2nd card.  Thank you Dave Ramsey for your encouragment and the guts to do this.

Until next time...

Fabulous Friday's Quote of the Day

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.

~Anthony J. D'Angelo~

Do you have sunshine in YOUR life today? If not - why not?  Remember being happy is a choice.  Please be grateful for the many blessings that God has provided for you.

Thursday's Quote of the Day

"Make it a rule of life never to regret and never to look back. Regret is an appalling waste of energy, you can't build on it. It's only good for wallowing in."

Technology Scares Me

Okay - first let me say - my job is in the technology field.  So it is more like - do as I say and not as I do post here!

~whew~  got that out of the way.

Let's talk Smart Phones - I truly believe that the sole purpose of a smart phone is to make me realize how "not smart I am"  I consider myself a somewhat intelligent person but gosh - these phones can get very complicated!  I just finally figured out my old Smart phone and now it is time to move on to the next one.  My greatest fear is that the phone will ring and I will not know how to answer it.  I just want a simple phone - you know?  Let me make calls and receive calls, send text messages and check my email.  That is all that I need so maybe in about six months I will finally figure out how to answer a call!
I love my good ole dependable phone.  It does exactly what I want it to do.
Bye-bye comfort zone - bye bye "old smart phone"

I love my old laptop.  It has all my favorites saved and it doesn't have Windows 7 on it!

I need to overcome my fear of all things new.  Change is good - right?  I mean we have the split ends cut from our hair to encourage new growth.  Maybe embracing technology is a lot like trimming off our split ends - we need to do it in order to grow.

What about DVRs.  THAT is just too much for this little brain to comprehend right now!

Simple Saturday thought of the day

"Life is made up of little things. It is very rarely that an occasion is offered for doing a great deal at once. True greatness consists in being great in little things."

A Thought for Thursday

Gratitude

It has been a busy two weeks...very busy.

Let's us not forget that I have been housebound for four days (yes 4 days) thank you Ole Man Winter.  Thank goodness I have the ability to work from home so I did not have to take vacation or personal time.  We started Tuesday with a nice ice storm.  On Friday - the ice storm was followed by 6 inches of snow.  So - we basically had 6 inches of snow on top of ice.  I discovered that it wasn't even safe to walk out to my mailbox to check the mail because my house in on a bit of an incline.  Needless to say - I did a few sliding tricks on my way to check the mail.

Then comes Saturday - sweet...sweet Saturday with the temps going up...up...up and before you know it we are in the 50's and the snow and ice is melting  *yippee*

Sweet...sweet...sweet...

Until Sunday - and Sunday lunch.  Considering that this city has about 100K few more people than usual (thank you Super Bowl 45) we decided to go north to lunch - the HEB area.

Not even thinking twice - I walk to the sidewalk after getting out of the car - not even noticing that the sidewalk was covered in ice.  Down I go...down and hard.  Let me tell you - that ice was COLD!

While most people might have been upset or mad at the restaurant for not taking better care of their sidewalk - I was one person full of gratitude.  I was so lucky that I didn't break anything.  I will probably be sore tomorrow but I will also be thankful that my bones are intact as of today!

It is the smallest of things to be grateful for but I am so thankful and blessed that I can find the ability to say a prayer of gratitude for this not being a serious fall.
